Methodology Update of Emissions Calculation

March, 03 2017

As part of our continuous improvement programme, GEODIS improved the calculation methodology for our emission reporting and modelling solution, called BLUE2, starting with the January 2017 results.

BLUE2 is based on EcoTransIT (www.ecotransit.org) and GEODIS’ business data and remains in line with the European standard EN16258. These improvements have been implemented with the collaboration and input from various scientific institutes (INFRAS/IFEU Heidelberg). The update of BLUE2 integrates new parameters, new data, and the main enhancements are the following:

  • The Geographic Information System (GIS) integrates an enhanced database of postal codes and now has more than 6.2 million zip codes

  • Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) data’s and integrates the carrier specific data of the shipping lines which authorized it (Maersk, CMA / CGM, Hamburg Süd, MCC, K-Line and Arkas)

  • For air transport, the calculation now takes into account the routing and stopovers of the flight number with the most frequent type of aircraft on this flight

  • The electricity emission factors of rail transport have been revised taking into account the latest data on the electricity generation of each country

  • The entire methodology of inland waterway transport has been reviewed

If you have any questions or in case you are interested in getting a better understanding about the updates we implemented, you are very welcome to contact your GEODIS account manager.
